PESHAWAR: At least 14 government teachers from Tribal Areas are involved in sectarianism and anti-state activities, according to local security officials.
Political Administration of the Kurram Agency said that it was revealed in a dossier dispatched to the additional chief secretary of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The dossiers said that 14 teachers in upper and lower Dir were involved in extremism from 2007 to 2011.
The teachers are accused of preaching sectarianism and possessing explosive material, it said. The Kurram administration sought permission from the FATA Secretariat to take action against the teachers who are involved in sectarianism and anti-state activities.
– 40% teachers skip duties –
On Friday, FATA Students Organisation President Shukat Aziz informed journalists that around 40 percent teachers do not serve their duties in remote tribal areas and the students were not provided with quality education due to less qualified and untrained teachers. He appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to take solid steps for basic education facilities in the Tribal Areas.
