ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday reiterated that he will not try to evade the ‘so-called’ accountability proceedings against him and his family.
Chairing a meeting of leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as well as coalition partners after appearance in the accountability court over his plea seeking merger of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references at the Punjab House, the deposed premier claimed that he did not do anything against his conscience, adding that he was appearing before the courts because he respected the judiciary. Nawaz said that the PML-N respects law and constitution “because of which, we are appearing before the courts … and we are confident as we haven’t done anything wrong.” During the meeting, key issues including country’s political situation, proposed delimitations and constitutional affairs were discussed. The participants also discussed party matters and the campaign to enhance links with the masses.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and other PML-N leaders reportedly suggested that Nawaz Sharif had been a victim of revenge politics in the past as well. NA speaker also apprised the former prime minister about his meeting with the parliamentary leaders in connection with the proposed delimitations as well as the stance adopted by PPP and the PTI in this regard. The former prime minister and PML-N chief reportedly directed the speaker to take other parties on board on the matter of delimitations and try to pacify the public opinion regarding the census results.
